Pitmedden
FVO ventured back to Pitmedden where our juniours triumphed in the Jamie Stevenson trophy earlier this autumn.
No navigation for the dozen members who ventured out for the Pitmedden 10km. A new route meant that the road part was all but abolished for the run through the forest. On a hilly route on the forest tracks - FVO were led home by Brad in 38.59, with Will, Fraser and Marcus all in just over 40 minutes. The stragglers and the non-runners all managed to make it down to the community hall for the afternoon tea, before driving home into a beautiful sunset. Queue music!
Club Championships and Dinner Dance
Gareth and Jan raised the bar on Club Championships by putting on an excellent event on a new area that Gareth himself had mapped . To top it all - a choice of different piping hot soups on a freezing day.

Stirling Sports Council awards FVO "Team of the Year"
For the third year in a row, Forth Valley Orienteers beat off strong competition from other sports clubs in the Stirling Council Area to take the award of Sports Team of the Year" at this years ceremony in the Albert Halls.
Collecting the award on behalf of FVO, team captain - Jon Cross said that "FVO achieved its success because of its high inclusive participation from juniors to vets, and from beginners to British champions and prize winners at international competitions"
Also at the awards, Abi Longhurst was nominated for Junior Sports Person.

Scottish Score (17th Sept)
A small but select band of FVO runners made the trip down to Loch Doon near Ayr to compete in the Scottish Score Championships and represent FVO in the Scottish Inter-Club Championships. All of them finished in the top 3 in their class, with four age class winners! Well done to all. This was enough for FVO to take second place in the Inter-Club Championships despite a far from complete team. The winners were ESOC, who we will meet again in the Compass Sport Trophy final in October......
FVO results and positions were:
- 2nd M21 Fraser Purves
- 1st M35 Steve Nicholson
- 3rd M35 Jon Cross
- 1st M45 Martin Dean
- 1st W21 Hazel Dean
- 2nd W21 Beccy Osborn
- 1st W40 Louise Longhurst.
Podium at MTBO World Champs!
Janine Hensman (FVO) represented Great Britain at the World Mountain Biking Orienteering Championships in Slovakia last week. Despite having broken her collar bone only 6 weeks before that prevented any mountain biking until just days before the race, Janine gained an amazing 25th in the middle distance, and along with Helen Winskill who finished 20th, gained the best ever GB results in a MTBO WOC middle race.
The relay was even more successful for the girls; 9th after the first leg with Janine then pulling GB up to 3rd and Helen on a slightly longer gaffle than surrounding teams finishing a fantastic 4th overall! With the top 6 on the podium, it meant champagne, union jacks and prizes! A mechanical bike problem denied Janine the chance to improve on her middle distance result in the Classic race, but Helen more than made up for this disappointment by finishing 7th!
Full results can be found at http://www.orienteering.sk/mtbo2005/
Team GB are sponsored by Ron Hill and Craft.
The next Scottish MTBO event (Trailquest) is at Aberfoyle on the 16th Oct.
Success at Jamie Stevenson Trophy (11th Sept)
More success to report I am pleased to say! This time it is congratulations to the FVO junior team, who were clear winners of the Jamie Stevenson Trophy at Pitmedden Forest, ahead of the MAROC team that pipped them for the trophy at last year's event. There were a lot of strong runs, including course wins for Jack Barrett, Abigail and Victoria Longhurst, and Jamie Stevenson. Stuart Thomson was second, and both Jamie Nicol and Laura Hendrie placed third. Well done to them, and to the other members of the team on their performances as well. Thanks also to Maureen Brown for coordinating the FVO team so effectively, and well done to organiser Louise Longhurst (and her team of 'volunteers') for what I gather was a very successful event, even down to the weather!
JK Relays
Well done to all the FVO teams at the JK Relays on Easter Monday, particularly the Women's Short team of Victoria, Louise and Beccy which was in the prizes in 2nd place (outsprinting 3rd on the run-in!) Other good finishes by our relay teams included the Men's Open team in 9th, the Women's Open team in 7th, the Short Open team in 4th and the two M/W40- teams in 5th and 10th. Well done also to Jack Barrett for coming back 2nd on the first leg in the M/W40- relay.
