FVO Urban Series
Each Urban event in our summer series has a Short (usually 2-4km optimal distance) and Long course (usually 3-5km optimal distance). It's likely that under 16s will require an adult who is prepared to take responsibility for safe road crossings on the Short and Long courses at most urban events. Please check with the organiser whether this applies in this event. There may also be a traffic-free course suitable for solo juniors at some urban events..
All courses are suitable for beginners and families to do together, ask at registration if you would like advice on map symbols, which are slightly different for urban than for forest orienteering.
Results from this series of events are used for league placings. The series was previously called Sprint, however has been rebranded as Urban to make it clearer to newcomers that sprinting is optional (i.e. many club members walk, jog or run these courses).
Entries for all Urban Series events will be taken through the FVO entry system.
Local event
Local events are competitive but low key and in the 'localised' area, often on a Wednesday evening or a weekend morning. Try O events are local events tailored to anyone new to the sport, with coaches on hand for advice and tips. Open to all ages, abilities and fitness levels, learn to use a map and compass to navigate round short courses.
Training events are non-competitive and used for training and coaching. These are aimed at members of the club, but non-members and newcomers are also welcome. Social events are non-orienteering activities, with the annual highlight being our Awards Evening and ceilidh!
Regional events attract participants from around the local region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, and Major events are large competitions such as a British Championships or the JK.

Directions & Parking
Event assembly is at the car park at the end of Fishermans Walk (by the play park). There will be limited parking at this car park. Otherwise please find somewhere to park in the surrounding residential streets.
For those travelling from the North, note that a section of Cornton Road is one-way at the moment (no southbound traffic) - you can go round via Forglen Road / Pullar Avenue or take an alternative route.
Map & Terrain
The terrain is a mixture of urban and parkland. The adult courses will be predominantly in urban terrain, and the junior courses will be predominantly in parkland. There is a final micro-O section shared by all courses on a new 1:600 map.

There are 3 courses available.
The Long and Short course are suitable for adults (over 16s). The Junior course is aimed at juniors up to 16 years.
All courses finish with a micro-O section in Fishermans Walk Play Park. There will be a map exchange control where competitors should pick up a new map for the micro-O (same for all courses).

Entry Details
Entries can be made online at https://fvo.eu.pythonanywhere.com/orienteering/signup?type=U1%20Cornton%20and%20Causewayhead%2012%20AUG%202026. Guaranteed entries will close on 10:00 on Tuesday 11th August but entries will continue to be accepted whilst there are still printed maps available.
Registration & Start times
1730 to 1900. Courses close at 1930.
Facilities
There are no toilets at the event. Toilets are available at the nearby Tesco and Sainsbury supermarkets.
Safety Notes
The adult courses cross the busy Cornton Road and participants should take care to watch for traffic.
The junior course is mainly based in parkland but has the possibility for crossing minor residential streets, and juniors should take care to watch for cars.
