Forth Valley Orienteers

Juniors

The club's juniors are one of our key features in our ongoing drive for success.  One third of our 300 members are aged under 18, and starting from coaching sessions on White (TD1) courses, it's possible to go all the way to the Great Britain team at the World Championships!

If you have a sense of adventure, love to explore outdoors and are keen to learn new skills, then orienteering is the perfect sport for you!

The club warmly welcomes juniors and their families and we have a large junior section which caters for all ages and abilities:

  • from toddler age, some of our events are suitable for very young children, with buggy-friendly courses or free string courses, where toddlers and children love to complete a short themed orienteering course following a string all the way round.
  • from age 4+, most of our club events have courses suitable for the whole family to enjoy together and where your children can make new friends, have fun in the fresh air and burn off all that excess energy.
  • from age 7+, juniors can join one of our junior pathways for ages 7-12 or 11-16. They can also take part in junior competitions for individuals and team relays. Starting with club coaching sessions at primary or secondary school ages, many of our juniors have progressed to Scottish and GB teams, and even all the way to the World Championships!
  • from age 14+, juniors can start or continue orienteering as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award for their sport, skill or volunteer section. Our coaches are always pleased to discuss how they can act as assessors for our club members.
