Local event
Local events are competitive but low key and in the 'localised' area, often on a Wednesday evening or a weekend morning. Try O events are local events tailored to anyone new to the sport, with coaches on hand for advice and tips. Open to all ages, abilities and fitness levels, learn to use a map and compass to navigate round short courses.
Training events are non-competitive and used for training and coaching. These are aimed at members of the club, but non-members and newcomers are also welcome. Social events are non-orienteering activities, with the annual highlight being our Awards Evening and ceilidh!
Regional events attract participants from around the local region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, and Major events are large competitions such as a British Championships or the JK.

Overview
Welcome to the classic site of the Wallace Monument! A compact but challenging area with everything from hills, cliffs, fallen trees, lots of tourists and with a bit of luck, some good mud!
Please note the height gains on most of the courses. Course lengths of the courses have been updated to reflect this.
A few control locations and descriptions have been slightly updated after the maps were printed. Apologies in advance if anyone gets caught out by this. The latest version of the control descriptions are available to download from the foot of the event page, and for the Yellow course, they will be available at Registration as well. (on normal paper) In the unlikely case that it impacts the course, it will be ensured that the control is clearly visible from both the old and new location.

Safety Notes
- Please note that there are some steep cliffs in the area (see example below). Care has been taken to avoid these areas (especially for yellow/orange routes), but you may still come across them. Some areas may be fenced-off, but either way please take extra care around these areas.
- There is a tourist bus regularly driving to/from the Wallace Monument from the car park. As such, please take extra care when using the asphalt road. The yellow course has been designed to avoid this as much as possible. A small section of the road has been flagged as “out of bounds” to avoid anyone running down this road as well.
- Depending on the weather, especially the car park and the road towards the start is likely to be slippery/icy - please take extra care when coming up to the start / on your way back through the car park.
- This area is heavily used by the public and tourists (that may not be familiar with orienteering) Please take care of other members of the public using the area for dog walking, bike riding etc.
- Due to the compact nature of the start/finish area, you may come across finishers at the start. Please be mindful of (and give space to) finishers that come barrelling down the hill.
- A comprehensive risk assessment has been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.
- You have the option of downloading, completing and handing this Medical Form to the Organiser (via Registration) so that existing medical conditions are known about in the event of an incident. Please put in a sealed envelope with your name on it. It will only be opened if required and will be destroyed unread if you don't collect before the end of the event.
- Everyone MUST download at registration/start, whether or not you have completed the course.
- If you have covid, or covid symptoms, or a recent positive covid test – please do not attend the event.
