Essential Info
Please remember that British Summer Time starts on 29th March, and clocks will go forward by one hour
Local event
Local events are competitive but low key and in the 'localised' area, often on a Wednesday evening or a weekend morning. Try O events are local events tailored to anyone new to the sport, with coaches on hand for advice and tips. Open to all ages, abilities and fitness levels, learn to use a map and compass to navigate round short courses.
Training events are non-competitive and used for training and coaching. These are aimed at members of the club, but non-members and newcomers are also welcome. Social events are non-orienteering activities, with the annual highlight being our Awards Evening and ceilidh!
Regional events attract participants from around the local region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, and Major events are large competitions such as a British Championships or the JK.

Map & Terrain
1:4000 ISSOM (enlarged version of the normal map) with 5m contours. The ground in some areas of Bantaskine is more steep than the map would indicate, due to the 5m interval, rather than 2.5m which is more common with ISSOM maps. Drawn 2018 by Chris Smithard, with subsequent minor amendments.
The event will start in Summerford Park, which has only been used before for the longer courses at events. Yellow is solely within the park and the other courses venture into the western parts of Bantaskine.
There is a "Sprint" finish to all courses, which is traffic-free, with the exception of one leg which has a short pavement section. Parents of under 16s may wish to shadow or observe in this area.

Safety Notes
The Union Canal passes through the south of the area, which is visited by all courses except Yellow, but no controls are located near the water, and there's no need to go in the canal. The Edinburgh-Glasgow railway is also on the map, but this is out of bounds behind a high fence.
There is a road on the south-west of the map leading into a croft, and this is marked as Out of Bounds - please don't run up it.
Building work is taking place at the High Flats north of assembly, and the building footprint in the eastern block has been expanded by Heras fencing. There is also a new-build area of housing close to assembly which is not an optimal course route, and to save asking for access permission, this is also out of bounds.
The Sprint finish on all courses is traffic-free, with the exception of one leg which has a short pavement section. Parents of under 16s may wish to shadow or observe in this area.
