Newcomers Series

These events are specifically aimed to introduce people of all ages to the sport and develop navigation skills for orienteering.

Try O event

Local events are competitive but low key and in the 'localised' area, often on a Wednesday evening or a weekend morning. Try O events are local events tailored to anyone new to the sport, with coaches on hand for advice and tips. Open to all ages, abilities and fitness levels, learn to use a map and compass to navigate round short courses.

Training events are non-competitive and used for training and coaching. These are aimed at members of the club, but non-members and newcomers are also welcome. Social events are non-orienteering activities, with the annual highlight being our Awards Evening and ceilidh!

Regional events attract participants from around the local region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, and Major events are large competitions such as a British Championships or the JK.

Important Event Information

Safety and Risk: A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.

Medical Conditions: If you have pre-existing health issues that you feel the organiser should know about, please print off the Medical Form, fully complete it, bring it to the event in a sealed envelope with your name on the front and leave at Registration. You are welcome to collect it after your run but if you don't, it will be destroyed immediately after the event.

Insurance Cover: If you’re not currently a member of British Orienteering, you won’t be covered by the club’s public liability insurance for this event. You’re very welcome to take part, but please be aware that you do so at your own risk.

Privacy: when participating in our events/activities your name may appear in the results section of this website or in newspaper reports. Read our Data Protection Policy to see how we look after your personal data.

Hired timing chips (Si-Cards, dibbers): We provide a free loan of these if you don't have your own but if you lose it there will be a £30 charge for its replacement.
