Barr Wood Festive FundraiserSun 7 Dec
Local event
Local events are competitive but low key and in the 'localised' area, often on a Wednesday evening or a weekend morning. Try O events are local events tailored to anyone new to the sport, with coaches on hand for advice and tips. Open to all ages, abilities and fitness levels, learn to use a map and compass to navigate round short courses.
Training events are non-competitive and used for training and coaching. These are aimed at members of the club, but non-members and newcomers are also welcome. Social events are non-orienteering activities, with the annual highlight being our Awards Evening and ceilidh!
Regional events attract participants from around the local region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, and Major events are large competitions such as a British Championships or the JK.

Course Information
Course Information
The course information is as follows:
There will be 2 score courses – a 30 minute score and a 60 minute score, both of which will have fun elements in them. Competitors on both courses will start in a mass start at 11:00am. There will be the opportunity to start in a punching start for a few minutes after 11:00am for those that either just missed the mass start, or who do not wish to start in the mass start.
There will be also be a Yellow Course and an Orange Course, for children and novices. Starts for the Yellow and Orange will run from 11:01 (once the mass start has gone) until 12:00.
Further details on the courses will be provided nearer the time.
Entry Details
Entries for the event will be via the FVO entries system here
The entry fees are:
Seniors - £8; Juniors/Students - £5.
In order to try and attract as many people as possible to the event, especially Scouts, there will not be a non-SOA/BOF surcharge for this event.
Registration & Start times
Start
The start will be close to the barn (assembly) and signed from the barn.
SI Air Punching
Controls will be enabled for SI Air (SIAC) punching. Please note that the Start and Finish units must be dibbed. Competitors in the mass start for the Score courses will not have to dib the start unit as this will be done for you.
Finish
The finish will be close to the assembly barn. There will be a taped route from the finish punch to the barn to remind you to download. Please remember to download.
The course closing time is 14:00 – please make sure you have reported to the finish and downloaded by then, even if you have not completed your course.
Facilities
Assembly
Assembly will be in the main barn building at Barrwood, which will be signed from the car park. Walking distance to assembly will be approx. 500m with 25m climb. Some of this distance may be on uneven ground. Parking closer to assembly will be possible for a limited number of people for whom this walk may be difficult. We are grateful to the Barrwood Trustees for permission to use the area and their barn and associated outbuildings.
Registration, hire dibber collection and download will be in the barn.
Toilets
There are flushing toilets within the barn at assembly and also 2 sets of composting toilets – one on the way to assembly and one on the way to the start, both of which will be signed.
The Barrwood Trust have asked that, if possible, competitors use the composting toilets as they are more eco-friendly than the conventional ones in the barn. In the event that the weather is very cold on the day, the mains water will have to be turned off, meaning the composting toilets will be the only ones available. This will be highlighted just prior to the event.
Refreshments
We are hoping to provide refreshments and some food to purchase from within the barn, to further support the fundraising efforts. So please remember to bring some money with you to assembly. Further information on this will be provided nearer the time.
Safety Notes
Safety and Risk
A comprehensive risk assessment has been carried out by the Organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.
A first aider will be present in the assembly barn.
The nearest hospital with A&E capability is Larbert, around 20mins drive from Barrwood.
We hope everyone enjoys their orienteering on this wonderful area.
