Forth Valley Orienteers

Autumn Plans

23 September, 2013

Time has flown by since the summer holidays, and as the soup runs have proven, the evenings are getting very gloomy (actually dark) by 7.45. Time to dust off the head torch in preparation for the rest of the Autumn and Winter seasons.

The club has loads of activity on, and so I thought it would be a good idea to flag some of the dates to put into the diary.

However, before that I just wanted to reflect on the summer of Orienteering…….

The majority of the club enjoyed the very runnable Moray Coast sand dunes (and the slightly tougher days inland) at the 6 days. Thank you to Gareth and David for organising a fitting finale to the week and Brian for planning great courses. Thank you to everybody who helped and, as always, made things seem effortless.

The Rannoch weekend, on 24th/25th September weekend, was very successful, and it was great to recognise the landmark of FVO reaching 40 years. What a pleasure it was to have our founding members along. Thank you to Ted, Val, Brian and Sue for attending. It's pretty amazing that FVO can boast having two IOF presidents (Brian and Sue) in its membership! Thank you to Trevor, Jason, Ted, Dave and Louise, instrumental in a successful weekend. I'm a fan of the Purple Thistle low key style, which helped to reduce manpower to put on the event.

So to up and coming activity......

Hopefully you will have seen the flyers for the “Come and Train (CAT)” series. Jen is introducing the skills’ certificate for juniors, which helps to structure learning. Please let Jen know if you would like to attend the coaching sessions. The first event is next weekend on Sunday 29th at Plean. Please can you put up flyers at work / school to help promote the events to non-members.

We have a Deeside social and racing weekend to take in the SOL and urban race on the 5/6th October. There is still accommodation available - please get in contact with Louise.

On the 20th of October a number of us are making the trip down to Forest of Dean for the Compass Sport Trophy final. I imagine Jon has already tried to twist your arm! We really need you and we have just the numbers to cover the courses, so please let your captain know if you can make it.

Alongside the CAT events we have the start of the Wednesday night O series, kicking off in Dunblane on the 30th October. Please see the events page in the next week or so when we get them added. There are still nights requiring organisers, so please get in touch with Martin if you can help.

In addition, Pilates and Circuit Training has begun again on a Monday evening at St Mary’s Church in Dunblane. Hope to see some of you there at 6.15pm.

Hopefully you already have the club champs and dinner dance in your diaries on the 16th November. Please look out for communication from Louise for the dinner dance and Fiona for the club champs.

And finally into next year, FVO will be hosting the Compass Sport Cup / Trophy qualification on a newly surveyed South Achray map on the 16th of February.

Enjoy the last few sunlit evening runs before winter returns :-)
