Falkirk Active Sunday

14 September, 2011

Rona, Jen and Pascal went to the Falkirk Active Sunday event on 4th Sept at Callendar Park, which attracted a crowd of over 3000 people! This was much more than the Falkirk Active Schools team had anticipated, probably helped by the lovely weather. With our stunning banner, tent and big O signs (not to mention all of the WEE kit controls lined up round our patch), the FVO stand stood out amongst the 20 local sports clubs represented on the lawn in front of the big house.

We had 88 families (ie about 350 people!) trying out the White course round the lake during the afternoon. I had a pretty sore throat after briefing all these groups on what to do (and what not to do ie remember to come back once they had passed the end of the lake!). At one point we were building up a bit of queue but we managed it down again so that people didn't have to wait very long to get their map. We quickly ran out of the 50 specially printed FVO leaflets, but we did get email contact details for over 25 families who were clearly interested in receiving more information and will hopefully turn up to a real event at some point in the future.

Whilst we were run off our feet with all this orienteering demand, Eloise, Grace, Pierre and Peter (sporting their FVO tops as additional mobile publicity) had a brilliant time trying out all the other sports. They were very taken with the kick boxing, but we're hoping they won't give up orienteering just yet!
