28 November, 2011

At this weekend's Scottish Score Championships, Gareth Bryan-Jones was presented with a framed copy of the map used for the 1973 Scottish Score Championships. Gareth was the Controller at this weekend's event and had orienteered for the first time , 38 years ago, at the event in 1973 which had also taken place on Sheriffmuir.

At that time Gareth was a very successful track athlete, having competed in the previous year's Olympic and Commonwealth Games. He, in fact, had only gone along to the Score Championships to get a long run in before the following week's Cross Country Championships.

In making the presentation, FVO's President Roger Goddard, recognised the contribution that Gareth had made to FVO over the years and to orienteering in the UK.
