Great Results for Forth Valley Orienteers at Glasgow City Race
Forth Valley Orienteers put in some top performances at last weekend’s Glasgow City Orienteering Race. The race was part of the Scottish Orienteering Urban League as well as a round of the prestigious UK-wide Nopesport Urban League. Eleven Forth Valley runners finished in podium positions.
The race started and finished at the People’s Palace in Glasgow Green and took in the Glasgow cathedral, Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian Universities, with a run right down Buchanan Street and across George Square.
Clare Stansfield enjoyed a fine win in the Junior ladies course, ahead of strong rivals with home advantage from Glasgow.
Gary Longhurst showed his marathon training from last year has yet to wear off with a strong run in the Supervet category, whilst victory in the Senior Men’s class went to Roger Goddard from Braco, winning by a small margin of just 10 seconds after running round the 7.3km course with 21 controls. Louise Longhurst finished 3rd equal on the veteran ladies class, losing vital seconds near the end to her rival.
Meanwhile, it was similarly close in the Men’s Open class, Ross McLennan from Stirling finished in a strong second place, an excellent result as he continues his injury comeback, with young Daniel Stansfield from Dunblane hot on his heels just 7 seconds down and continuing his good form this spring.
Ben Parkinson, also from Dunblane, had a great run in the junior class, finishing in 3rd on his 4.2km course.
Lizzie Stansfield, of course, continued her domination of her young junior class, but FVO result of the day went to the young junior boys category with a clean sweep 1-2-3 for Jamie Goddard, Robin Purves and Ewan Purves.
