Scottish Championships - FVO is Top Club

SOC2019 2

27 May, 2019

A massive haul of 29 Scottish Championship medals helped FVO to retain the Scottish Inter-Club Championship trophy for a fourth consecutive year, on a tough day's running at Dalbeattie.

The area was a massive contrast to that at the big English-based events earlier in the year, rough, green and slow with low visibility, and several athletes were forced out by the terrain.

The FVO men were dominant in every class from M21 to M50, as they snapped up five gold medals. Jamie Stevenson was 3rd home in M21E (107.05), but with athletes from Wales and England ahead, and both ineligible to be champion, Jamie claimed the trophy. Steve Feltbower added the M35 title (82.19), and there were podium doubles in each of the M40, M45 and M50 classes, with Will Hensman winning M40 in 74.03, and Ross McLennan 3rd (92.56), and a Gold-Silver pairing in M45 and M50, through Jason Inman (62.10) ahead of Roger Goddard (72.12) and Jon Cross (66.18) ahead of Ben Stansfield (69.38).

The Junior men chipped in with a fine contribution, with Matthew Inman (M10A - 22.32) and James Hammond (M14A - 42.08) both taking Silver medals, and Peter Molloy scoring the Bronze medal in M18E (84.13), while two more medals were added on short courses, through Simon Hunt (1st in M50B in 63.56) and Hugo Barker (3rd in M55B in 92.32).

The ladies turned in a strong performance right across the spectrum, and Janine Inman (W40 - 62.04) and Beccy Osborn (W45 - 69.15) claimed the championship honours in their class. Six more championship medals were picked up on the day, thanks to Silvers for Hanna Brindley (W10 - 32.39) and Rebecca Hammond (W12 - 34.11), and a quartet of Bronzes, for Lizzie Stansfield (W18E - 60.09), Catherine Isherwood (W40 - 103.52), Rona Molloy (W50 - 78.39) and Hazel Dean (W55 - 54.47).

The path to the podium was well beaten in the shorter classes, with wins for Esme Finch (W10B - 15.55), Fiona Berrow (W21L - 86.00), Sarah Tullie (W21S - 66.28) and Chris Wood (W70S - 53.36), 2nd place finishes for both Hannah Inman (W10B - 16.18) and Eloise Lardet (W20S - 130.05), and a pair of 3rd places from Rachel Hendrie (W21L - 100.13) and Helen Barker (108.58).
