Kippendavie (STUOC event) SoSOL2Sun 8 Feb
South of Scotland League
The aim of the South of Scotland Orienteering League (SoSOL) is to promote participation in orienteering beyond the local level by providing larger, but still welcoming, events; high-quality courses; good areas; and up-to-date maps.
Competitors are invited to run any of the coloured courses and, new for this year, we will be recognising adult pairs who run on the Green courses; adult novices who run on the Orange courses; and improving adults who run on the Light Green courses.
Regional event
Local events are competitive but low key and in the 'localised' area, often on a Wednesday evening or a weekend morning. Try O events are local events tailored to anyone new to the sport, with coaches on hand for advice and tips. Open to all ages, abilities and fitness levels, learn to use a map and compass to navigate round short courses.
Training events are non-competitive and used for training and coaching. These are aimed at members of the club, but non-members and newcomers are also welcome. Social events are non-orienteering activities, with the annual highlight being our Awards Evening and ceilidh!
Regional events attract participants from around the local region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, and Major events are large competitions such as a British Championships or the JK.

Officials' Reports
Thank you all for coming to the second SoSOL of the series. It was great to see so many people, even with the clash with the British Nights.
I hope you all enjoyed the fabulous courses set by Hamish. Despite the area being infamously grotty underfoot, Hamish really made the courses challenging and made for a great day out in the forest.
Thankfully the weather stayed in our favour with the only downpour of the day being when we collected the controls! And the cakes baked by STUOC were a great motivation to get to the finish line for.
STUOC would like to say a huge thank you to FVO for helping make this event such a success, through permissions, borrowing all the kit, map printing and of course our wonderful SI team (Jack Cheyne, Brad Connor and Paul Hammond); it would not be possible without them.
Thanks also to Neil Conway, the Controller, particularly for his guidance to the planner and his excellent knowledge of the area.
Finally, I’d like to thank all the Stirling Uni students that hung and collected controls and helped on the day.
We hope you enjoyed the event and will come back to the area in the future.
