Junior Competitions

There are a number of competitive opportunities each year for junior athletes to get involved in, from age 8 upwards.
As well as the Scottish Orienteering League, which has age-class courses from Under 10 to Under 18, there are team races as follows:
March-May - British Championship Relays. In various locations (usually England, but it's in Scotland once every 12 years).
Easter - Jan Kjellstrom Relays. A major event over the Easter break, with the relay being on Easter Monday.
May - Scottish Relays. Usually on the 2nd May Bank Holiday, the day after the Scottish Championships.
June - Scottish Schools Orienteering Festival. This one's not a relay, and you enter via your school, not via the club. It's a lot of fun though, and teams with FVO athletes in them have done quite well recently.
June - Jamie Stevenson Trophy. This is the Scottish Junior inter-club championship, and brings together all the juniors in Scotland to race on Yellow, Orange, Light Green and Green courses, usually in Perthshire (which is nice and central).
July-August - British Sprint Relay Championships. A relatively new event, and often in the South of England. One of the few Sprint opportunities for juniors.
September - Peter Palmer Junior Team Relay. A six leg relay, starting at 5am (in the dark!) and featuring juniors from across the UK.
October - Scottish Junior Inter-Area Championship. Competing as an Area, rather than as a club (so SWAT gets its time in the spotlight). As well as an Individual competition, which often uses the results of a SOL, there's a relay, with Orange, Light Green and Green legs for both boys and girls
