And there was Dancing...

16 November, 2025

The social highlight of the year is always the Awards Dinner and Ceilidh, which has been held at the Victoria Halls in Dunblane for the past 12 years.

This is an opportunity for athletes to wash away the mud, put on the best togs and mingle, eat and dance with their team-mates.

The 2025 event was the hot ticket of the year, with a sold-out show featuring 120 members, and was once again a fabulous occasion, thanks to our members, but mainly to the social committee of Caz, Heather, Natasha and Vicky for doing all the organising.

Club captain Jon Cross was once again Master of Ceremonies, and he gave a brief tour of what's been an exceptional year for the club on the field of play. Colour certificates were awarded to junior athletes for their performances over the year and trophies disbursed quicker than the first ten minutes of the Harrod's Christmas Sale.

The main awards of the evening were to the Most Improved Junior and Athlete of the Year. In most years, there's an outstanding junior candidate, but this year there were a number of youngsters who had a valid claim to the top prize. The jury eventually determined that the Most Improved Junior for 2025 was Sophie Edward, who had a remarkable return of 15 medals, including 11 wins, across her season. The only event where she didn't get onto the podium was the relay at the Junior Inter-Areas, where she was 4th on an Orange course behind three W14s.

The Athlete of the Year award was a popular choice, and went to Alison Q Smithard, for a year that saw her make a return to the World Championship stage 20 years after her last appearance as an up-and-coming 1st season W21.
